Dysport®: Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is the first competitor neurotoxin to Botox to hit the U.S. market. Like Botox, it is a type of botulinum toxin, but it is dosed differently. Small amounts of Dysport are injected into the facial muscles, which block the neuromuscular signal, resulting in decreased muscle activity in the treated area and prevention of the movements that cause deep frown lines. When injected by a trained medical professional like a board-certified dermatologist, Dysport does not paralyze these facial muscles; it simply relaxes them, softening and smoothing facial lines and wrinkles. Treated clients appear more relaxed, happy and younger looking. Dysport is FDA-approved for the treatment of glabella (or “frown lines”), but it is also used on many other facial wrinkles, such as the horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet around the eyes.
