A Personal Note from Dr. Nichols

We moved!!

The last few weeks have been busy! NicholsMD has finally moved to our bigger and brighter space at 50 Old Field Point Road, Third Floor in Greenwich. We’re so excited for you to experience “NicholsMD 2.0” and provide you with the latest, most advanced skincare solutions to help you look and feel your absolute best (more details below!).
To celebrate the move, my staff and I had a Girls-Night-Out at Pinot’s Palette. While we’re not the next Picassos, it was a fun evening after all the hard work on the move. Here’s a snapshot!

My husband and I have had our own night-outs recently, attending concerts like Beyonce, Sting and Paul Simon! And we had a great time this past Sunday as sponsors of a Greenwich Polo event. What a fun, family outing on a gorgeous day!

My middle one, Peyton, not in the photo because my poor guy was under-the-weather that day!

We’re looking forward to seeing you in the new space, so you can feel beautiful, confident and ready to live your best life today and every day!
Best,
Dr. Nichols

Ask the Aesthetician
Question: Can I use the same products in the summer that I use in the winter months?

Answer: Certain products can be used year-round; but, for the most part, you want to change your skin care routine seasonally.

Our skin will overproduce oil in the heat of summer to help keep it moisturized. In the summer months you should cleanse, exfoliate, treat and prevent sun damage with lighter-weight products. Here are some of my favorite summertime products:

SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser – This cleanser removes excess impurities and oil without drying the skin. Gentle enough to be used several times a day, this non-irritating cleanser conditions, soothes, and calms.

IntraCeuticals Enzyme Exfoliant -This light exfoliator amplifies skin radiance and provides a perfect base for the application of makeup. It contains a combination of carnauba, beeswax and bamboo beads which provide unparalleled exfoliation to reveal a polished and glowing complexion.

SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum – This all-in-one skin rejuvenating treatment improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, skin tone and texture. No wonder it’s Hollywood’s secret to beautiful skin!

ColoreScience Sunforgettable Loose Mineral SunscreenThis broad-spectrum sunscreen makes protecting your skin easy, 365 days a year. Perfectly portable and easy to reapply, it offers powerful SPF 50 UVA/UVB protection with sheer, natural-looking coverage. And you can put it right on top of your makeup so you can keep up with your promise to Dr. Nichols to re-apply your sunscreen every two hours!:)

Meet Alyson!

Meet Alyson!

Alyson joined our NicholsMD staff earlier this month as Client Coordinator. She’ll be the first person you meet when you enter our new, Boutique location. She’s joining us after graduating from Pennsylvania State University this past spring. She has a keen interest in cosmetic dermatology, so she’ll be starting nursing school and working with NicholsMD in the fall to pursue her passion. We’re so excited to have her join our staff, and for you to meet her!

Keep this in mind the next time you jump in the water!
While a nice dip in the pool is great on a hot day, nothing beats jumping into the crashing ocean waves. But if you notice an itchy rash start to develop after you get out of the water, you may have been the victim of one of the many tiny critters that live in sea. Here are two of the most common seaborne skin problems to watch out for:

Seabather’s Eruption is an extremely itchy rash caused by Cnidarian jellyfish larvae, often called “sea lice.” It begins a few hours after bathing in the ocean, usually in places along the Atlantic coast. It occurs when these invisible larvae become entrapped under people’s swimsuits, and then release a toxin that leads to the subsequent rash. Therefore, most of the bumps and hives of the rash will be found on the areas of the body that were covered by the swimsuit – i.e. the buttocks, waist and breasts. The eruption can persist for up to 2 weeks. And according to a recent ABC News report, a wide outbreak of these sea lice are expected along the Gulf of Mexico this summer. So if you are in these endemic areas, it’s best to shower with cold water immediately after getting out of the ocean; this will hopefully get off any possible larvae before an eruption starts.

Swimmer’s Itch differs from Seabather’s Eruption in that it is found on exposed areas of the body not covered by swimsuits (most often on the legs and chest); and it can occur both in saltwater and freshwater. It is caused a microscopic organism called a cercarieae that leaves its snail host and burrows into the skin of unsuspecting swimmers. After coming out of the water, the bather begins to itch and the rash develops. The incredibly itchy rash comes and goes for several days and then spontaneously resolves. It can be prevented by thoroughly washing, towel-drying, and applying alcohol to exposed body parts after swimming in an endemic area.
